June 2014 – Issue 33 – Migraine Awareness Tips

The Continuing Pursuit for Migraine Elimination and Pain Reduction

June is migraine awareness month. I've now sent 7 tips, one each day for one week to do my part in raising awareness within us. For it is within ourselves that we need to find strength, perseverance and endurance. We need to build resilience.

Holly's Helpful Tips for Migraine Awareness

Tip #7: Building Our Resilience Muscle

Surviving chronic migraines means learning to build resilience. You just need some tools to help you cope. No one gets taught these coping skills when they are young, not proper ones.

Migraines have built resilience in me in these ways:

- I have evolved into a more empowered space, with better boundaries. I know myself better. I know my triggers and I know what works. I also know what does not work to help my migraines. Time has helped me come to terms with this illness, and using focusing therapy I have found ways to accept all the variations of this disease.
- I have learned how to be my own best friend and listen to the quiet voice within.
- I have learned who matters to me most.
- I have learned to ask for help.
- I have learned the importance of self care.
- I have learned about priorities and negotiation.
- I believe in my inner strength now and my ‘survival skills’ for coping from a place of a more calm, centered self.

Your body may be temporarily disabled, but your heart and your soul are not stifled in any way. Know that you are strong, courageous, and that solutions are happening faster now than any other time in history.

The patience that chronic migraineurs eventually learn and master becomes a virtue and we can be more empowered, educated, and make better decisions in all areas of our lives. We are learning everyday. New things are being invented everyday. We are gaining wisdom as we go.

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Building resilience all starts with having a plan. A pain management plan. This is one of my favorite articles called Your Migraine Prevention Kit to use when you need it most. Feel free to add your tips in the Facebook comments box at the end of the page.

I'd like to recommend reading Cynthia Perkin's Mindfulness Over Migraines e-book that explains the science behind mindfulness and why it helps migraines. And she explains the method step by step that she uses to eliminate her migraines in 15 minutes. Yes, you read that correctly ... eliminate in 15 minutes. It will be the best $6.99 you ever spend!

Timing is everything when aborting a migraine attack.

Share Your Migraine Stories

Remember that your contribution will help others too! We are not in this alone, even though it feels like it most of the time. Our stories and input can help each other. For example, I heard about Naramig from a Shiatsu patient of mine, not my doctor or any of the specialists I had seen! Two years after triptans came on the market. Two years of needless suffering.

This is a safe place to share your challenges and tell your story to people who truly understand what you are going through. Feel free to share your art to inspire us all in our time of need and find solutions with new treatment ideas specific to migraine disease. Get some professional health advice from others that walk this path. Just click on the links underlined above if you would like more details.
